Dr. John Nkengasong

Biography

Dr.Nkengasong is the Executive Director for Higher Education, Collaboratives, and Strategic Initiatives, bringing decades of influential global health leadership. He has served as the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Senior Bureau Official for Global Health Security and Diplomacy, leading PEPFAR and international health security efforts. Previously, he was the founding Director of Africa CDC, where he guided Africa’s COVID-19 response and secured 400 million vaccine doses. A virologist with over 30 years of experience, he also held senior roles at the U.S. CDC in global HIV and TB programs. Dr. Nkengasong has served on major global health boards and holds degrees from Yaoundé, Antwerp, Brussels, and Harvard. Recognized by Time’s 100 Most Influential People and recipient of multiple global health awards, he has published over 250 peer-reviewed works and continues to shape global health policy and innovation.
