Professor Paul Mapfumo

Biography

Professor Mapfumo is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe. He is a distinguished Professor and researcher in soil science, agro-systems ecology, and climate change. He is a renowned strategic and critical thinker who, upon his appointment, successfully transformed the University of Zimbabwe into a comprehensive research and innovation higher education institution, leading and promoting the Government of Zimbabwe’s new Heritage-based Education 5.0 Philosophy. His leadership emphasizes outcome-based and innovative capacity-building approaches and mentorship, aimed at promoting the role of science, technology and innovation for the industrialisation and modernisation of developing economies. Professor Mapfumo serves on several national, regional, and international technical committees and advisory boards, underscoring his commitment and passion for advancing education and innovation in Africa.
